Jamie Veal dominates the 30-lap feature race taking the lead on lap one and never looking back.

The weather for the time honoured Sharp Cranes Sprintcar Gold Cup at Avalon Raceway on Boxing day is traditionally hot or wet.

This year it was hot and very windy, a track curators nightmare but the track held up pretty well for the SRA Sprintcars

Despite the challenging conditions, Jamie Veal dominated the 30-lap feature race taking the lead on lap one and never looking back to take the victory and the $5,000 prize.

Todd Moule impressed throughout the night but fell victim to late-race drama on the last lap. Battling fiercely with Jordan Rae for a podium spot, Moule hit the wall and Rae tagged him with both coming to a halt, opening the door for Grant Stansfield to move into second place with a strong result for his team. Corey McCullagh rounded out the podium, taking third place.

There was some controversy as to whether Rae should have been awarded 2nd place as the race was either over as Veal had already taken the chequered flag and or the red lights were on before Rae stopped.

Race fans won’t have to wait long for more action, as Avalon Raceway returns on Monday night December 30 for the Brandt Sprintcar Speedweek.
